March 9 – JESUS IN THE GALILEE
Today experience the Galilee as Jesus knew it. See the Ancient Boat, a fishing boat from the time of Christ that was raised from the depths of the Sea of Galilee. Explore Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee, including the synagogue built over the one in which Jesus taught. Stand on the Mount of Beatitudes and recall the Sermon on the Mount. At Tabgha, enter the Chapel of the Loaves & Fishes as you recall the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000. Share in a special time of worship on the water as you sail across the Sea of Galilee on a memorable boat ride.
March 10 – NORTHERN ISRAEL
A scenic drive through the Golan Heights will give you some beautiful views of Syria and Jordan, as well as, Israel. Visit Caesarea Philippi, where Peter told the Lord, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!” At the ruins of Tel Dan, see the altar built by King Jeroboam I and learn about where the “House of David” fragment from the First Temple Period was discovered. From Mount Bental, look out over the Damascus Road and the Valley of Tears where a severely outnumbered Israel defense force stopped the Syrian invasion of the Golan Heights in the Yom Kippur War of 1973. Finish the day gathering at the River Jordan where you can remember or renew your baptism.
March 11 – FROM SEA TO SEA
Bid the Galilee region farewell as you head towards the Mediterranean coast. Your first stop will be Nazareth Village, a living history of the life & times of Jesus of Nazareth. Next up is Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig overlooking the plains of Armageddon. Continue to Mount Carmel where Elijah defeated the prophets of Ba’al. Finally, arrive at Caesarea Maritima, the port city of Herod the Great. Explore the extensive ruins including the theatre and aqueduct. It was here that Cornelius became the first Gentile convert to the New Covenant and Paul was imprisoned before being taken to Rome for trial. Check-in to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.
March 12 – JERUSALEM & BETHLEHEM
Start your day looking out over the “Golden City” of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, where Jesus ascended to Heaven 40 days after the Resurrection. Walk down the Palm Sunday Path recalling the shouts of “Hosanna!” as you make your way to the Garden of Gethsemane. Pray among the olive trees as Jesus did the night he was betrayed with a kiss. This afternoon, visit Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Look out over the Shepherds’ Field where the angels proclaimed good tidings of great joy.
March 13 – JERUSALEM
On Mount Zion, enter the Upper Room in remembrance of the Last Supper & visit the traditional site of King David’s Tomb. Enter the House of the High Priest Caiaphas where it is believed Jesus was held before the crucifixion. Pray alongside the Jewish faithful at the Western Wall. Continue to modern Jerusalem and visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial, with its poignant exhibits honoring the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust. Learn about the Jerusalem of Jesus’ day with a look at the First Century Model of the City of Jerusalem, now housed at the Israel Museum. The museum itself contains 10,000 years of archeological artifacts, as well as the Shrine of the Book exhibit that displays the Dead Sea Scroll containing the book of Isaiah.
March 14 – Free Day or Optional Masada & The Dead Sea Tour (additional cost)
Enjoy a free day on your own to enjoy Jerusalem, or take an optional day trip to Masada & the Dead Sea.
Optional Masada & the Dead Sea Tour ($80 additional)
Take the cable car up to Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortress of Herod the Great,
famous as the final stronghold of the Jewish Rebellion. After exploring the fortress,
take a dip in the renowned salt and mineral laden waters of the Dead Sea.
March 15 – JERUSALEM
This final morning of your journey will bring you into the Old City to the Cardo. This ancient marketplace has ruins that date back to the Judean monarchy among modern shops. Part of the Old City walk is the Via Dolorosa, including the Sister's of Zion Church, location of the Antonia Fortress and possible location of the trial of our Lord prior to the crucifixion. The games of the Roman soldiers are still etched in its stone floor. View the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle and sing in the Church of St. Anne. Finally, reflect on the agony of Christ’s crucifixion at Gordon’s Calvary and the exhilaration and reality of the resurrection at the Garden Tomb! After your final dinner in Israel, prepare for departure to the USA.
